Megan Rodgers grew up moving often inside and outside of the USA. After studying at Mount Holyoke College and at the Università di Bologna, she moved to Chicago to help start a theatre company, Division 13 Productions, where she wrote, performed and produced plays for 5 years. She then completed the MFA program at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
Since 2001, she has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Chicago, Basel, Torino, Bologna, London, Sofia and Budapest, where her work can also be found in many private collections. Besides her collaborations with writers, composers and video artists, she curates regular art exhibitions in Basel, is mother of two daughters, has already moved 22 times and is now contemplating her next move.
Viewers take a metaphorical journey to a new home following 62 small, amorphous figures as they push through a sea of hope-filled balloons, ride a magic carpet of the homes of their dreams, and find themselves in an unfinished city of homes built precariously on the memories and artefacts they brought with them. Materials used: terracotta, latex, ribbon, text, blueprints, cyanotype, cork, paper, felt and original sound.
