The Shchusev State Museum of Architecture, “Now&After” Media Art Center present “Now&After’15” International Video Art Festival “A Space We Choose”

5th International Video Art Festival "Now &After" is presenting the best video art works submitted for the contest by the artists from five continents.

The theme of “Now&After’15” festival is “A Space We Choose”. What kind of space is interesting for artists? A space existing in close relation with time (the Chronotope) or a space as an expansion? Microcosm or outer space? Space of our homes or immense spaces around? Our personal space that we keep closed for everybody or another person's space that is kept closed for us?  Virtual space: living within it, living with it or living without it? Architectural space or natural landscapes?

The issue of space visualized by contemporary artists is presented in the Museum of Architecture “Ruin” wing. Three floors of this unique building conserved after destructive fire were constructed in XVIII, XIX and XX centuries. And it is specifically an architectural space that interests festival organizers this year: cities and buildings, architectural ensembles and residential areas, a variety of architectural styles and a monotony of mass housing development, architecture of the future and the ruins of the remote or recent past.

“Space is a philosophical category, as well as our everyday routine and the basic concept of architecture, - says festival director and curator Marina Fomenko. Artists turn to the architecture of the present, projects of the future and ruins of the past. They explore a space that exists in the relationship with time and a space as an expansion and dimension; personal space and the space of the "other". Artists involve us in a sphere of memories and in a virtual life, offering to take a glimpse into our habitations and to look around”.

This year the festival has received 1046 applications from 67 countries, representing the diversity of creative strategies and authors’ approaches to the announced topic.

There are 43 artists from Sweden, Russia, Israel, Switzerland, Latvia, Brazil, France, Italy, Poland, Spain, Ukraine, Germany, Taiwan, the Czech Republic, Canada, India, UK, USA and Belgium participating in "Now&After'15" competition and non-competition programs.

Traditionally the festival program is being demonstrated within the frame of unique multi-channel video installation. All participating works are also being shown as one-day installation “Video Now”. There are guest festivals programs presented at “Now&After’15”: IVAHM festival (Spain), VideoPlay festival (Argentine), СologneOFF (Germany), VideoBabel (Peru) and video art program from Finland. Meetings with participants and guests, performances and discussions are organized during the festival.
